I believe that’s Benjamin Moore’s Super White dotting his nose. He also got paint on both sides, his tail, a dot on one ear, and a swoop on the other.
I was painting the kitchen cabinets, so I put the boys on their beds and blocked the entrance with a fireplace grate and chairs (we forgot to bring our baby gates from the old house to the new… lesson learned…). The second I’m standing on a counter, roller in hand, Emmett pops up from his bed. You can just see his wheels turning. “Huh. Lady put these chairs in the weirdest place. Here, lemme just move this one over here… and push this one over there… and, yep! I can get into the kitchen.” Now, imagine him doing that 35 times over three days, and that’s how he got covered in paint.
Here’s how to get paint out of your dog’s fur:
- Grab your olive oil. You can also use vegetable oil. Or, if neither of those are on hand, dish soap can work on lots of types of paint. Your pick.
- Rub a huge, thick glob into the dried paint. Scrub with your fingers.
- Brush. If it doesn’t come out onto the comb, repeat steps one and two but let the oil sit longer. No more paint in your dog’s coat!
- Then, I highly recommend a quick bath or your beloved dog will likely spend eternity trying to lick the oil residue out of his coat.
There you have it. How to get paint of out a dog’s fur. Easy-peasy but still a giant pain.
Absolute worst case scenario: You can’t get the paint out of your dog’s fur, so use small nail scissors to trim the painted pieces out.
Otherwise, not much going on around here (“not much” being an entirely relative term). Lucas had his blood test this week, and all was looking pretty good. We repeat his chest x-rays the first week of November. He has coughed a few times, and he’s developed a little bit of a wheezy rattle in his chest when he’s panting. There’s no question it’s progressing, but he’s also having FUN. Tons of fun. More micro-hikes. Ripping around the new yard and house with Coop. Lots of fast food (it occurred to us that we didn’t have Arby’s on the list, so that got tacked on).
The house is coming along! Thank you all so, so much for your support and cheers when I shared the news. We’ve had so many downs this year that I’m excited to have a big, huge up. It’s been a bit nutty trying to do everything at once, though. We can’t really stay up there because I still teach Monday and Wednesday mornings through December. We can’t really stay down here, either, because of the massive quantity of work to do at the new house. My mom has been a painting and cleaning hero over there, and my sister helped out quite a bit this past weekend.
Lots of back-and-forthing. Lots of working. Lots of spoiling pups. And cleaning paint out of Emmett’s coat. Sigh.

I’m looking forward to the before and after pics too! We’re going to be doing some remodeling and lots of painting soon, so it’s good to know what helps remove paint from fur, lol!

Life around here keeps on keepin on. We humans and Shadow are adjusting to life without our sweet Callie as best we can. Ducky – thank goodness – has gotten past the mourning and back to her “old” bratty self. But we love her all the more for it. She makes us laugh when we really want to cry.
I think about you guys every day. I’m so glad Ducky is back to being a brat! 😀 That is wonderful to hear!
I love that he moved the chairs! My lugheads won’t cross a barrier/gate even if it has fallen down, lol!
That is exactly how Lucas and Cooper are. Emmett sees something–anything, really–in the path of where he wants to go, and he’s like, “Oh, this is funny. This chair/gate/whatever is in my way! I’ll just shove it… there!” In his sprier days he even leaped over an installed baby gate!

When I was single I used to hope I would marry a Vet (animal Dr, not soldier). Later I decided I’d also like to marry a hairstylist, now that I live in a 55 year old home I need a construction guy! I feel your pain.

We forgot to take before pics. Seriously. Sigh. I have a lot of in-progress ones, but John is going to download the pics from the real estate listing. It’ll have all their furniture and stuff in it, but at least we’ll see the befores!
thanks for the tip on the paint removal from fur. my girl (pit mix) also likes to be a part of the action. I finished the cupboards myself as well and am glad its done. Enjoy the new house especially all the after results when you finish each project!

I loved the short sweet update. Emmet is the cutest and the story of him weaving around the chairs to get to the kitchen sounds like something my little rascal would do as well. Also thanks for the tip about olive oil, it’ll definitely come in handy for when I have any paint around my dog, i’m sure he’ll find a way into it.
