Quick note: As you guys know, we hate cancer around here. Having gone through it with Emmett then again myself, we’re committed to anti-cancer initiatives. When Katie reached out about this project to help stop canine cancer, I jumped on board to share this information.
You try to keep your dogs healthy in every way that you can—you feed them the right food and bring them to the vet for checkups. There is still a lot we don’t know about how to really keep our dogs healthy, though. Morris Animal Foundation is trying to find out more about canine healthcare by sponsoring veterinary studies. Morris has launched The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study to try to learn more about how to prevent and treat cancer and other diseases that affect our canine companions. Fifty percent of all dogs in America older than ten die because of cancer. Hopefully, this study will help to change that statistic.
The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is looking to sign up 3,000 Golden Retrievers. The study will mainly consist of checkups and questionnaires. If you have a dog that you would like to sign up for this study or know of someone who has a Golden who might sign up his or her dog, check out the requirements for enrolling your canine:
- Golden Retriever owners must be over 18 years old and reside in the contiguous United States in order to participate.
- Golden Retrievers must be healthy and less than two years old.
- Golden Retrievers also must have a three-generation pedigree.
