I caught myself “lasting” nearly everything today. Today is the last day Emmett will eat breakfast on four legs. Today is the last day Emmett will wrestle Lucas to the ground on four legs. Today is the last day Emmett will nap like this:
It was his last four-legged car ride, and his last four-legged dinner. His last four-legged Frosty Paws, and his last four-legged belly rub.
But each time I catch myself in the “lasting” trap, I forcefully remind myself that it’s not really his last anything. I know that he’ll be his same old self, wrestling Lucas to the ground, sleeping lazily, chowing down on Frosty Paws, and making me smile every minute of every day.
He’ll just be using this ramp we built for him with our bare hands (and a staple gun) until he’s steady enough on his feet to try out the steps.
The next couple days will be a little bit crazy, but I’ll let you know how the surgery/recovery goes. A big, humongous, teary-eyed, bear-hugged THANK YOU to all our amazing friends and family for the outpouring of love and support. Seriously, there will never be a way for me to thank you for your wonderful words and positive thoughts. It’s made a tremendous difference in helping me and John cope with everything that’s going on. From the very bottom of our hearts, thank you.
I’m looking forward to your post about how you feel after the surgery. The surgery which DID NOT REQUIRE THE AMPUTATION OF EMMETT’S LEG!!! HURRAY!!!
I see your long ramp how long is your ramp and long stairs ..I am running to a problem with my stairs inside about 10 steps my ramp is 88 inches long it is medal.is it possible to put on it. I have a 11 yr old Newfoundland.she can’t climb high raisers.
Hi, Jean! We actually built that ramp to the exact length of our back steps. I think you’d probably want to get a pretty close and accurate measurement of your steps!
