Oh My Dog!

obsessed with dogs

Lucas loves to sing! Maybe.

10•21•13

I’ve been thinking a lot about sound sensitivity for an upcoming post.

One thing that interests me is Lucas’ response to musical instruments. Harmonica, guitar, violin, even – as you’ll see – a whistle, all elicit “singing” from him. Recorded music does not get the same response.

WARNING: If you have dogs around, you might want to turn the sound down!

Lucas loves to SING! from Maggie Marton on Vimeo.

What do you think? Does he like to sing? Should I see if Cody and Sierra are holding auditions for band mates? Or is this him telling us it hurts his ears?

When I get home, Hurley will get to listen to Lucas “sing”. I’m pretty sure Hurley will join in for quite the duo 🙂

He can be in the band but Sierra will need to give him voice lessons! 🙂

I definitely don’t think it hurts his ears!! I think he’s joining in! Neither Dash nor Lilly are singers, but boy did they look quizzically at the computer while Lucas sang! Lilly barked two minutes after the video stopped -sort of typical if her (sigh)

Lovely tones, a hint of an operatic baritone, maybe something by Puccini? My dogs cocked their ears but no effort at duets.

My favorite Christmas carol of all time is Carol of the Bells. Doesn’t matter if it’s orchestra, acapella, or even muzak in an elevator. However Vlad & Barkly seem to hate that song no matter which version of it is being played. They don’t seem happy at all when they’re barking and howling at it. Needless to say, that song has been banned in the house by the hubs. He thinks it’s cruel since they’re not happy looking like Lucas is. He’s probably right in this case.

That’s hilarious. I wonder what it is?? Maybe the sharp tones hurt their ears? But it’s funny that it would even be with the muzak version. Hmm… Very interesting!

Oh, Lucas…I think you have a Most Beautiful voice! I even sang right along with you. You know what’s funny? The only thing that makes me howl is other howling. Like, if mom and dad howl, I’ll howl. Or if Brudder Ranger howls, I’ll howl. Or if I hear a doggie like you howling on the computer, I’ll howl. But if there’s another doggie in our neighborhood howling? Nope, doesn’t do it for me. I’m a complex girlie, don’t you think?

    Wiggles & Wags,

So glad you two could have a duet, Mayzie! I bet your voices sounded melodious together! I wonder what it is about the howl coming through the speakers?? Maybe there’s some sort of distortion that only our dogs’ sensitive ears can pick up?? Although… these guys go nuts if a dog so much as sneezes a mile away…

That is great! I love how he really carries that note through! I think he’s singing….I don’t think it’s bothering him. I’d love to try that with my dogs….is that a certain kind of whistle?
